Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover was named an Energy Star Leader in October 2007 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in recognition of its superior energy performance. The company operates more than 575 stores covering more than three million square meters. The Energy Star recognition is awarded to companies that have achieved significant energy savings through portfolio-wide energy efficiency improvements. Stop & Shop/ Giant-Landover was one of only a few U.S. supermarket companies to be named an Energy Star Leader. Energy-efficient attributes at the company include daylighting, T5 fluorescent lighting systems, automatic dimmers and occupancy sensors, and refrigeration systems with high-efficiency fan motors.
