
A sustainable catch
Ahold's operating companies are defining ways to increase the sustainability of sourcing seafood. Since 2000, Ahold USA has worked with the New England Aquarium on the Choice Catch program. The Aquarium's academic section audits seafood sources for environmental impact and makes recommendations that help drive purchasing decisions. Both ICA and Albert Heijn have strong relationships with the WWF and the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). Albert Heijn and ICA are sourcing more MSC products and encourage suppliers to become certified against the MSC standard for well-managed, wild capture fisheries. Albert/ Hypernova is working with our other companies to build a sustainable seafood program.
