This photograph contains everything we believe is relevant in CSR. Amel Sabeh works for one of our suppliers in Africa. She is holding salads made from freshly cut fruit, packed on location in Nsawam, Ghana and sent to the Netherlands every night. This fruit is part of the healthy diets we work to promote. The photo shows how, through sustainable trade, we can successfully keep the processing of commodities - and the extra income it provides - at the source, to improve the standard of living in these communities. It also illustrates the dilemmas we face as we work to balance the importance of advancing economies in developing countries by transporting products from far away while working to address issues related to climate change. Finally, this photo shows our commitment to community engagement, because Amel Sabeh is part of the Blue Skies community, which is supported by the Albert Heijn Foundation in Africa.
